How casual should I dress for the first face to face interview? He said the last guy they hired was in flip-flops.

Edit: Just got back from the interview. The interviewer was in a shirt and tie. The bastard conned me. Haha.

Jeans and a T-shirt would be my suggestion. If you want to be bold, go naked, but that does carry some risks of course.

I wore the jeans and t-shirt. The interviewer was in a shirt and tie. It all seemed to go well though. – buckbova Jul 13 at 0:33
I would almost always advise at least business casual. – Chris Aug 31 at 1:10

very casual means jeans and t shirt. if you go in with a suit and tie you will look out of place and may lead them to think that you don't fit in w the corporate culture or can't follow simple directions.

Read Dress for Success. Generally, people decide a lot about a person by how they dress. When a friend of mine graduated from college many years ago, he wore jeans to an interview and got the job. A classmate of his with a lower GPA wore dress clothes and got a job with the same company but got paid twenty percent more!

The general rule is to go one up. For business casual go suit/tie, for very casual go with a polo shirt and dockers.

But anyway I don't really care anymore. I will go business casual to any interview and that's it. If a company is really hung up on suit/tie versus business casual then forget it. Some places are more business than casual (where you need to wear a button up shirt with your dockers instead of a golf/polo shirt).
