Question: What's the best way for me to get an SAP job ?
Specifically getting one of the higher-pay jobs ?

I am currently ASP.NET programmer (C#, VB.NET), and I also know C++/C and a bit Java.
I'd like to go in direction SAP, but I don't know how/what...
I considered to take a course/certification in ABAP, but I don't know whether this is worth it.

Find a company that will pay for you to get SAP training and work there.

To get one of the higher-pay jobs, this requires meeting that list of criteria exactly since there are probably a half dozen people on the planet that can meet the requirements exactly. My reason for using exactly in the previous sentence is that some people may want someone who has X years, not X+1 or X-1, of experience with version Y of software from Z.

I'm also an ASP.Net developer and while I wouldn't mind getting into SAP, I kind of like being more of a web guy than a back-end guy which is where I think SAP would put me.

SAP has Java and .net extensions (netweaver) but it depends on whether a company has enabled/bought/bought user licenses for this as part of their implementation.

SAP isn't the only Enterprise Resource Planning tool, consider others as well.

Another possibility is to find a company that develop ASP application with a SAP back-end, and then learn the SAP part. You'll need to learn both the language (ABAP / ABAP-OO), and the domain on which you'll be working (ie HR, FI, MM...). Someone that can cross the line and look at the other side (event if he's not an expert) is an assets in a team, as the ABAPer is not always available...

disclamer : i'm doing dual SAP HR / Java developpment, coming from the SAP HR side, so i could be subjective on the subject, as java is simpler to learn than SAP.
